Opera as a Technical Assemblage

Opera as a Technical Assemblage

Thesis submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master’s National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) in Experimental Opera

In Opera as a Technical Assemblage, we propose to expand the concepts of functional analysis that surround the genre and to develop their implications from a structural perspective. To this end, we consider opera, as a technical form, to be an assemblage of elements and stage that operate in order to produce specific sonic and visual information. The field of reflection is circumscribed to the philosophy of technology and its associated principles. We will work on a theoretical and practical artifact that will experiment, through the development of sonic information over time, with how the offering of specific scenic objects operates in their projection as stage/work. We will inquire into the history of the stage, discuss architectures related to music, and describe works and design principles associated with project-based thinking.
